Getting started: install PEP

If you are new to PEP, this page gives you the download you need. Just pick your project and your operating system in the table below.

Make sure you install the right environment

Most PEP projects are available in more than one environment. Only the environment listed on this page holds your project's real data. Any other environments (such as testing and acceptance) are used in the process of testing new PEP release versions. If you install one of those by mistake, you may still be able to log in, but you will not see your study's data.

Unless you specifically require the testing or acceptance environment, use the downloads on this page.

Step 1: download PEP

Find the row for your project, then click the download link in the column for your operating system.

Other ways to run PEP

For those working on a server, a compute cluster, or in a container, PEP is also distributed as a Docker image and as a Singularity image. These are listed on the complete list of downloads, together with the builds for the testing and acceptance environments.

Step 2: install PEP

Follow the tutorial for your operating system:

The installer gives you several applications:

  • PEP Assessor is the graphical application used by assessors who enter data for participants.
  • pepcli is the command line application, which can both upload and download data.

Step 3: start using PEP

  • The PEP tutorial walks you through some of the key features of PEP, including those for administrators.
  • The pepcli documentation describes all available commands.

  1. This project is still being set up and does not have a production environment yet. The download listed above is the environment that the project currently works in, so it is the correct one to install. ↩↩↩
